2018 21VLX Screen Flicker

Recommended Posts

Hi all.  Our 2018 21VLX screen flickers sometimes.  When it does happen the boat still functions fine but the screen will flicker and sometimes go out.  The small screen is unaffected by this issue.  It is very intermittent; sometimes it happens once a day, sometimes it happens over and over.  It sounds to me like a cable coming loose but wanted to see if anyone else had this issue and maybe had some ideas on where I should start.  Thanks for all the help.

I’d for sure start with the cables going to and from the big/small screens. Also start with ensuring you have good batteries and connections. After that I’d check with your dealer to see if you have the latest software.

Does the screen reboot?  Mine was doing something similar and ended up being power button.  Sometimes the screen would flicker and other times it would reboot and even ask for start code again.

Sorry guys, I just saw this.  I have modified my notifications :-).  The boat does not turn off and the screen doesn't "reboot".  It just flickers.  Sometime it comes back on and sometimes it doesn't.  Has anyone opened the back of the main screen to view the cable connection?

when you say pull the back off the screen what do you mean?  you shouldn't take apart the screen it might become delaminated and it will be ruined.  That issue is something that can be covered under warranty, is the boat registered to you through Malibu?

Yes, the boat is under warranty.  It's a pain in the butt for me to take it in but that's the right thing to do.  I definitely don't want to void the warranty or delaminate the screen.  Thanks for the advice.
