Rudder Box Leak - 2004 Malibu Wakesetter 23 XTI

Recommended Posts

Has anyone replaced the rudder box or replaced the seals of the rudder box on a 2004 Malibu Wakesetter 23 XTI?  Does this require removing the rear seat, and/or the hard ballast tanks?

I have replaced the rudder on a Malibu XTI and I did remove the rear seats and tanks to do it.  It is definitely time consuming and a bit of a PITA, but very doable.

Yep, I ended up removing the hard tanks. I've wanted to remove the hard tanks anyway to have the option of additional storage / or throw in a ballast bag.  I was able to get the tanks out without removing the rear seat - however, they won't ever hold water again LOL.  Love the extra storage and access to the rudder though.  Worth it!
