What is this under my dash?

Recommended Posts

I was working in the drivers footwell on my heater and spotted this thing - Not sure what this is, or what it's supposed to do?  The wiring isn't hooked up.  Just curious if anyone knows!

I have a horn and an alarm buzzer under my dash (2001 VLX).   It looks like the alarm buzzer (oil, water sensors).   One quick way to find out is try your horn - If the horn works, you've confirmed  its the alarm buzzer.  I strongly suggest you reconnect it, there may be hidden issues (from the previous owner)...

Alright - time to shimmy back under the dash and figure out where they need to go - the black is hooked up still by white and red are cut.

Pretty sure it goes into the MDC box.

Hmmm...I'm seeing Tan/Blue and Purple/Black as wire colors for engine alarm, so I'm thinking that must be the depth finder alarm?  The wire colors make more sense.  Not sure what the white one would do though.  Mine looks a little different than this one, but close.

Looked at my 03 RLXi today and it's the depth beeper. Mine has a bullet style connector in the white wire.  I unplugged it and the depth beep stopped. We like the depth alarm for general lake use but it gets really distracting when putting boat on trailer. My plan is to put a time delayed relay contact that's controlled by a push button hidden under bottom lip of dash. Depth alarm operates normally until we press the push button then it's silenced for 30 seconds.
