Water dripping from shaft seal

Recommended Posts

Hey all.  First Bu for me.  ‘17 VLX.  I noticed when I got it totally raised on the lift that water drips steadily from where the prop shaft enters the the hull (at the seal).  Pretty steady stream for a minute or so then it stops.  Normal or should I have the dealer look at it?

Thanks!

So the water drips from under the boat on the outside? Thinking this because you mention the lift. To confirm, a 2017 should, you have a tube going to the shaft seal on the inside of the boat.

Yes.  Drips from under the boat on the outside.   Looks like it’s coming from where the prop shaft enters the hull.  The water flows down the prop shaft then drips into the lake.  So you are saying that this is normal and it should drip when it’s lifted out of the water?   Thanks.

Look inside the boat, the shaft packing is water cooled so it is connected to the raw water plumbing and will always drain on the lift and or trailer. Also if you run the boat out of the water on a fake lake, it will gush out of the prop shaft hole as well.
