1000 Hours on a 2018 MLX

Recommended Posts

I have a 2018 Malibu 21 MLX with roughly 1000 hours. It has been extremely well maintained with all appropriate servicing and checks. Love it and don’t plan on selling anytime soon. When should I expect to rebuild the motor?

I have read and seen anywhere between 2000 and 3000 hours. It depends a lot on regular maintenance and how the engine is used/abused I imagine. If you want to know what’s going on internally you could always send an oil sample to someplace like Blackstone Labs for testing. I did that at 800 hours on my 2010 and they said it looked great, no problems. On all of my boats especially and all vehicles really, I am an oil change zealot. That probably has helped.

Which motor?  What is your primary use?  Ski/surf/wakeboard/cruise?

Which motor and it's use profile will determine expected life.

That being said, a lot of the older, simpler GM350 based motors would easily go 5000+ in a ski boat.  But, a lot lower load usage than the surfing we've all been doing so much more of.

I'd be interested to hear this as well.  I'm guessing it's the raptor in that boat, but could be wrong on that.

There is a roughly 400 hours of surfing and 200 hours of wakeboarding and the rest would be cruising. Engine is a Monsoon 6.2L. I appreciate the responses

You will start to replace accessory parts such as pumps, actuators, belts, etc before you need an engine rebuild. Maintenance and care is key.

Connect it to a computer and get a readout of the hrs/rpms.
