Recovering the F-150 Thread

I hate the auto start/stop b/c it was a traditional start on my 2017 (shakes the truck, not smooth).  I just test drove the new powerboost and the auto/start stop is MUCH smoother.  Not sure if they are doing it at the crank or what but very silky smooth and I would expect a hybrid to cycle on/off gas so I guess its inevitable and I like how smoothly it does it.

Why?  It doesn't seem to bug me at all that the engine dies when I stop.  It starts very quickly, and I figured out that if you flare the brake pedal just a bit as you stop, it will delay the shutoff.  If I want it to kill the engine sooner, I press the brake pedal a little harder as I complete the stop.

Totally annoying in the ford I drove for a while. Plus, what about the extra wear on the starter and battery to save a thimble full of gas over the life of the vehicle. They are trying... but I don't think it's a good answer.

I certainly understand your point.  However, I traded in my 16 year old F-150 with the original starter still in it.  They put an AGM battery in this truck, and I expect it to last until the plates have too much lead sulfate.  This thing starts within about a half turn when it is warm, so they don't run the starter very long at all.

I kind of expect the turbo engine to have less compression than a NA engine, so it may just spin easier.  I could see how cranking a NA V8 might be different.

I would be interested to see how much fuel it saves by shutting the truck off for 30 seconds. Most vehicles(trucks/suvs) see a difference of what 3-6 mpgs change from city to highway? And most of that fuel saving is coming from not having to accelerate I would imagine.

Whether is reduces starter/battery life or increases fuel economy I think both points are minute.

My 2017 was the same 3.5 EB just not hybrid.

Just now learning that the 2019 F150 5.0 uses a $7 once and done plastic oil drain plug for its plastic oil pan.

Yeah, I'll stick with my Hemi ;)

In all seriousness, I wonder if the rapid oil change places actually use a new one when they change your oil?  That is just pure crazy to have to replace more than a gasket - if you bother replacing pan drain gaskets.

I'm pretty sure Ford says to reuse them until they start to leak.  You could also just change the o-ring if you are nervous about it.

My 2020 3.5L EcoBoost engine has a genuine steel plug.  I just changed the oil yesterday, and the darned thing was crazy tight.  Earlier versions had the plastic plugs.

I didn't like the stupid fasteners they use to hold the fiber splash panel up.  They make it almost impossible to remove with one hand because the "nuts" are allowed to rotate almost a full turn.
