2021 T22 Engine Choice

Hey all, I'm in the process of ordering a new 2021 T22 in Aus and have a decision to make about the engine.

The Australian Axis builds still come with the 410 6.2L Raptor as standard and the M5di and M6di are upgrades. I want the M6 as we surf, however they are charging $AUD15k (~$11.5k USD) for the upgrade. This seems crazy!

We just sold our 2017 A20 with the 350, and we are mainly upgrading because the motor was struggling fully loaded. I don't want to end up in the same situation so interested in any views of the M6 versus 610 and is the upgrade worth it.

Thanks

I don’t think that 6.2 410 Raptor will struggle at all in the T22. That was used for many years in the US as the 23 LSV and 22VLX motor base motor and it performed very well. I don’t think I’d pay the up charge to the M6.

I just sold a 2017 22 VLX with the Raptor.  I think that boat may have been slightly heavier than the T22 you're ordering.  In any case, we used that boat primarily for surfing and never had any power issues.  When we were done surfing and needed to get up on plane to run loaded, it would still do so and we would run while draining ballast.  I agree with @ahopkinsVTX that you wouldn't experience that engine struggling with a T22.  If I were in your position, I'd be sticking with the Raptor considering the cost increase for the M6.
