2014 VLX Sub Box

Does anybody have a sub box design or ideas for 2014 VLX with a factory rockford sub.  Two shops where i live don't want anything to do with it.  So i will tackle it myself. I will use 3/4 MDF and spray with Bedliner to water proof.  Any other suggestions would be great. From the specs i found on the sub i need either 1 cubit foot for sealed or 1.5 cubic foot for ported.  Which is better? I assume it will make a fair difference from the factory set up.  Will I have room for a ported ?

Thanks in advance

A sealed 1.0 ft3 net, is a fairly straight forward rectangle. A ported will likely require a amore complex irregular shaped enclosure. Which is better? Obviously, the ported will yield more output, however, the woofer's T/S parameters, have it better suited for a sealed.

I always try to go prefab before i go custom.

Remove your kick panel, and make some cardboard mockups of sealed boxes you can find on amazon. I bet you can make one fit.

You can buy nice quality boxes for less than you can reasonably put one together, unless you have way more free time than i do.

Sealed tends to be crisper and tighter response, ported tends to be more efficient/"louder", but only at the specific frequency it is tuned for.

You can always buy a prefab MDF box, strip carpet, and "waterproof" if you desire.  At the low cost of many of these boxes, i tend to lift htem above the carpet (in case carpet gets wet) with some spacers ,and run them as-is.

If it gets moist in 5 yrs, i'll deal with it then.

If you have no heater, you should easily be able to fit a prefab sealed box behind your kick panel.  Heater makes it a bit tougher, but not impossible.

Ported is a possibility, but will be bigger, and harder to fit.
