I must admit being puzzled that it is fine running for an hour or two before it starts pushing oil and steam out.  Steam after a while would suggest a crack that opens up when the motor is hot.  Where does the steam come out?  

The fact that the oil does not have any milky streaks in it at all would normally mean that no water is getting into the crankcase.

I would defiantly put some air pressure in #5 with it at top dead center and see if it comes out the exhaust, intake, or crankcase vent/dip stick.  If it really runs smooth for a couple of hours I wonder if the rod snapped in a way that nothing is hitting and the piston is sitting still.
