Avoiding sun damage to boat - Phoenix

Is it crazy to store a nice new boat uncovered in Phoenix?  Would have an area in the side yard with a nice big cover.  Maybe even an RV cover or something custom to cover the tower and all.   Sound like you can use pool noodles to keep the cover off the swim deck so it doesn't get too hot.

Or do you need covered storage?   Phoenicians?

I would look at getting a metal carport kit to keep the sun off the boat. They make some nice looking ones for reasonable prices, just make sure you get one tall enough. I’ve seen interiors fade really badly from being left out in the sun.

I guess if you can afford a new boat, you should be able to afford to properly store it. Just rent a garage at a storage place and protect your investment.

Las Vegas is very similar and when I was thinking about leaving my boat at the marina, several people told me that as long as I leave the the boat cover on, it won't damage the boat.

No damage?  Well, uncovered areas will oxidize and fade in the sun.

I wasn't going to nor would I leave my 2019 25 lsv in an uncovered slip all summer, but at least two people told me that if kept in an uncovered slip, there will be minimal damage to the boat. I know several people who keep their 2019+ towboats out all year round in Vegas. They say to just keep it waxed.

It is your boat - do whatever you want.  But sunlight will embrittle vinyl (especially darker colours)  and oxidize gel coat.  BTDT.

We go to Lake Powell several times a year.  I think the environment is at least similar to Phx.  Even the boats in the covered slips take a beating.  The boats that are left out, even covered, age must faster than you would expect.  A GOOD cover will last a year or two.  Even if waxed a couple times a year, the gel will still oxidize.

If it was me, I would do my best to try to find a way to store under cover.  A boat is a huge expense.  It will depreciate either way, but it will do a much better job of holding its value if stored under some sort of covered structure.
