After months of looking,  I finally bought my 1st boat! I bought a 2010 Malibu Wakesetter vlx! Any one have any advice for setting up the best wake? I’ve been wakeboarding for a few years now but am looking to get into wake surfing. Any recommendations for my 1st wake surf board? Brand? Name of one you like? Anything would help! Thanks in advance! Ready to get out on the water!

Hey Truble03,

Congrats on your new boat. As for a beginner to intermediate surfboard I love the Ronix Kaol Powertail. Fast enough for every size wave while still being stable. If you want more snap then next level up for me was the Ronix Fish.

Have a blast,

Chris

We have a Hyperlite Shim that gets a ton of use from all skill level riders. Its a hybrid style board with 3 fins. It’s locked in enough to be controllable for the novices and loose enough with out the fins to be fun for the more advanced riders. A very good price point also.

I agree with @wdr about the Shim. I’d also suggest checking out the Hyperlite Broadcast. It’s a great board as well. Cheap and durable. I still enjoy riding it from time to time.

I agree with these guys.  We started here as well.

I had a 2011 VLX and I found that too much weight in the front caused the wave to be big with no push. I had the most luck with full rears and centre, half front tank, and 750 in the surf side locker and 400 in non surf side. I used the wedge when I felt like it with no rhyme or reason. I was on a River and used 9.8-10.2 but was told to try around 10.6 I sold the boat with this insane market before I could try faster. Make sure you’re in at least 15’ of water or you’ll lose all push.

If you can your lake might have a local pro shop for $75 an hour they will come on your boat and help you set it up and try out a few boards.

Up here, pre-Covid, the local Tige/ATX dealer had surf night - $25 bucks and you and a few others could surf all thier boards for hours.  Great idea that might return one day...
