Wake Shaper

We have a 2000 wakesetter vlx. Looking at trying a suction cup style wake shaper, but don’t know where to start. Anyone have success with a particular brand or model.

I did some research for my neighbor when he asked the same question.  I read through all of the forum posts I could find on here, and looked up some of the options.  Here is what I told him.  Hope it helps:

 

Aftermarket surf systems come in two basic levels.  The least expensive options consist of what are referred to as “suck gates” because they attach with suction cups.  Mostly, they run from about $230 to $400.  Most people think there isn’t a huge difference between the following options, all of which have been tested by multiple people on the forums I read:

Buying criteria:  Make sure the version you buy floats.  Try to find out from the manufacturer if it will work on your model boat (although I think the 2012 Malibu’s have fairly flat rear back transoms, so it probably is not an issue); check the used market – many people sell their aftermarket gates if they update to gate equipped original equipment.

 

The other option is to buy an aftermarket surf tab system and have it installed.  There are two primary systems:  GoSurfAssist, and Infinity Surf system.  These systems are typically installed by a dealer, but let you add fully electronic retracting and deployable gates to a boat aftermarket.  I think the GoSurfAssist probably runs about $5000 installed, and the Infinity system probably more like $3500.  People on the forum I read have both systems, and love them.
