Boat registration and title

Hi,

I am looking to buy an older Axis boat for my son... I saw two boats from California but I live in Nevada and one boat is from a dealer and the other one is from a private seller.

The NDOW websites says (Present proof that a sales tax has been paid, if applicable dealer sale. Proof of sales tax is not required on an occasional sale.)

The dealer boat is a bit better and about the same price so I would like to go with that but if I go with the private seller I won't have to pay sales taxes when registering here in Nevada.

My question is since I am the one buying it as a gift for my son and he will be the one registering it under his name, would he have to pay sales tax if I buy the boat from the dealer?

Call your state Fish and game or whoever is in charge of boat registration.  Every state is different.  In NC private party sales of boats do not require sales tax.
