hinge repair wedge trap door on swim platform

i am always tightening screws or hinge screws all over boat including the trap door .  Two right holes are stripped, the right one much worse than middle and left screw remains tight at all times except maybe a 1/16th-1/8th inch turn at most to tighten

i want to fill right two holes with 3m 5200. and remount the hinge.  why do i always wait till Thursday to do something needing 48 hours to cure😂

i am currently drying the holes with twisted paper towels and they come out wet and dirty in two stripped holes and barely damp and barely dirty on left tight screw.  will use hair dryer to finish job of drying (testing with paper towels for dryness before filling holes , may wait to do this next week monday for better drying and cleaning of holes after using).  this was wet from usage last Thursday a week ago.

my question:

Can i wait the full 48 hours to tap screws into the 5200 or will it be too hard for that for the tiny stainless screws?

i was thinking if i put them in early they will be “glued in” and become unremovable but that probably is ok because i can demount door from well attached hinge if necessary?

how would you handle it?

While 5200 may work, I would recommend a marine epoxy to first fill the holes. Once the holes have cured, then i'd drill screws in there;

Optional, easy way out,  since the goal is only to fasten here, some simple inserts could go a long way.

I would buy the next size up screw and call it a day.

probably on target, only worry is fiberglass hole behind gel coat is rotted a little on inside of hole, worried the screw would only be biting the gelcoat and fiberglass opening only , but i bet your right

due to size of opening if drilling is necessary to tap hole or drive screw no way to do it as a straight perpendicular hole or screw, would be drilling downwards with possibility of damage of bottom of platform or just a very crooked hole or screw.  i have a screw driver that is the perfect length to remount but worried if i wait for full cure the tapping would be too difficult by hand by screwdriver

i will still consider your plan but why wouldn't 5200 alone be adequate?

I agree.  I tend to want to do things the right way, but 5200 is pretty tough stuff, so I think I'd be inclined to try it first.  My bigger concern is the rust.  Are you sure those are stainless?  I'd get new hardware to be sure.

Alternate route is to use a right angle attachment with a hex drill bit and extend the holes a little farther into the deck and use longer screws.
