2008 Malibu iRide winterization

Recommended Posts

I am a new Malibu owner (I’m new, used boat). My previous boat of 22 years was a stern drive. I like the direct drive but the owner’s manual says to drain the lakewater out of the transmission. I can’t find a cooling line to the transmission on this direct drive tranny with the Inmar 350. Does the direct dive transmission have a lakewater cooling line and if so where is it?

there is no water in the transmission.

transmission cooler is located on the front of the engine in front of the port side valve cover.

it's cylindrical w top and bottom water hoses and two side mounted trans fluid lines.

as a minimum, carefully remove the bottom water line and clean any debris from that input side of the cooler as it will accumulate trash and reduce coolant to the engine.

that cooler is copper and more fragile than it appears so don't get too frisky in ripping that hose off and don't over-tighten the clamp during reassembly.
