Best way to clean bottom of boat

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've had my Malibu in a boat slip since April and It's going to have a ton of algae accumulation on below the water line when I pull it at the end of the month. Anyone have ideas on the best way to clean the hull on the trailer? Any products that work best for this?

Advice appreciated.

Thanks!

Best first step is to get into the water with a rag or a mop and wipe off the scumline and as much of the bottom as you can.

Then whatever you can't get in the water, spray it with a pressure washer as soon as you get the boat out of the water.  If you let the scum dry on it, it is 10 times harder to get rid of.

I *JUST* did this today.  Sadly, 20C/70F and not a spit of wind, but no driver. I used StarBrite Hull Cleaner.  Worked like a charm after 3.5 months in the lake.  Was way easier than the 4 hrs I spent removing the oxidation and waxing.

I used Tony's Tonic (found here) from 2005 till now.  A 50/50 mix of Lysol toilet bowl cleaner (with HCL as the primary ingredient) and hydrogen peroxide.  Other than blisters, gelcoat looks like new. Wear rubber gloves.
