rear of boat is starting to fade

I am in my second season of boat ownership so antything with gelcoat is new to me. Over the summer I've been noticing that the rear of the boat is starting to fade. The boat lives on a lift and the port and transom catches the late afternoon and evening sun. I wash it frequently and everything else is in great shape. It's black and tan with black being at the waterline and what's fading. Is this something that will polish out?
