2013 24MXZ LSA motor always runs hot

Recommended Posts

Curious to see if anyone else has experienced this same issue,

Im running the 572ss Monsoon. Indmar tells me it should be operating at 160-175.

Sitting at Idle the boat stays at 160-162 always, as soon as I start moving it begins to climb to about 185. Then right back to 160 when I drop it back to idle.

I have tried running with no weight, and fully loaded ballast. Doesn't seem to change anything.

Its been into the shop at Bakes twice now, parts have been replaced.... Issue is still there. It has put me into limp mode 1 time.

No codes, no alarms.

Replaced Impeller, raw water pump, prop, belts. No leaks. Cleaned out tranny cooler screen.

Any Ideas of what is going on. Im tired of constantly stressing about the temp gauge.

Thanks

Hmm, my LSA does the opposite.   Seems to run hot 165-180ish on idle but as soon as you throttle up above 1000rpm +/- or more it brings it right down to 160-165 pretty consistently.

Happens anytime over 2k rpm

I haven’t changed out the thermostat yet.

ill give that a shot today, and burp the coolant system. Hopefully it makes a difference!

Do you have the heater option?

i have have read a few threads on here saying your problem is common because of the heater

Anyone know where the thermo is located on the LSA motor?

On the automotive version, it is at the outside end of the circulation pump housing.  That would put it low, aft, and port on a vee drive if they have the same setup.

Put a new thermo in, pulled the old one out and found it covered in white residue.

took her out for a test run and it looks like it is helping out a lot, boat didn’t go over 174 with ballast and piggy backs full.

still need to flush the coolant system, but much happier in this range.

thanks for the help

just curious since your original post screamed thermostat, why not that first? since you replaced parts in search of a solution that would be the first and cheapest option

Great question, I had the boat at Bakes Marine and trusted their mechanics to fix the problem.... I created this post after spending thousands with them and no fix...
