Diamond identification

Hello all! Just joined here on the malibu forum, and looking forward to buying my first malibu boat. I've been hunting around for that good crossover since I've got a huge extended family and we all to everything from ski to surf. I'm not super picky on what style, year, etc, all I know is it has to be a diamond hull. After looking up older posts for hull identification, I almost get more confused on how to tell which is a diamond hull haha! I thought if the far outside of the hull turns down at all, that's a diamond. But then I read somewhere that you have to look further towards the front as well to see how far the chines go? Truth? Is there a way to tell from this pic? I'm going with my gut and saying it's a diamond but I'm not positive. Thanks for any help!

That is a diamond hull known as a V25 Diamond.

I’d concur.
It gets really hard on surfgate equipped boats as the gate blocks most the turndown and some colors play funny tricks with lighting and shadows.

I personally find it moderately infuriating when the ad lists the boat can be equipped with either hull, then never states which hull it has.  At least for 2020 they started putting a Diamond Hull logo in place of the surfgate sticker.

Wedgeless diamond. Strange to see a boat with a tower not equipped with a wedge.

Yes I was a little disappointed to see that. I have  2 brothers who work in fabrication. Might have to just make out own 😎

FWIW, Sunscape's were all made on diamond hulls.

I have had an '06 21 LSV Sunscape for 15 seasons now.

IMHO, it's a great boat!  Not as good a ski wake as the 2002-2004 version, but, for me at least, it has a pretty decent slalom wake for recreational skiing. However, one needs to shorten the rope to 15 off and run at >30 mph, with some bow weight and under a third of a tank of gas, to optimize it.

For wake boarding, I think you're gonna want a wedge.  My kids, and all of their friends, were perfectly happy wake boarding with just the wedge deployed.  We later began to use Fat Sacs to enhance the wake, but few of my riders ever asked for them.

Of course, for surfing, you will definitely need Fat Sacs.  And, I can attest to what a PITA it is to have to manually fill and drain those!  We also use the wedge and a suck gate when surfing is on the menu.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks for all the info!

I'm 99% sure I'm buying that sunscape. $29,000. 680 hrs. Comes with 2 sacks, pumps, Bimini, anchors, life jackets, trailer, cover. Kids love to wake board. I like to ski. And I'm sure surfing is somewhere in the future

If the first boat you posted is the one im thinking of, its just north of me in kc. Looks super clean. I tried getting some buddies to buy it but no one would.

I purchased an 05 sunscape earlier this year. We love it so far, throws a good wave for surfing and wakeboarding
