2015 VLX 22 Horn not working

Recommended Posts

I'd bet big money that the horn is good and the button is dirty.  Violently press the button a bunch of times, then slowly push it.  Every boat horn I have ever seen will work just fine when you do that, but some of the buttons insist that you press them just the right amount.

By the way, are you just making sure it works for an inspection?  Nobody uses a boat horn except when The Man asks if you have one....

I keep a whistle on the end of the safety lanyard.  It is much faster and louder than a horn, and it gives the safety lanyard a functional job.

We sound our horn when approaching our shoreline to drop skiers if another boat is getting ready to take off.  When full family is here, there can be as many as 5 boats going. I'll try your advice, sounds logical.

In all my years of boating I do not think I have ever used the boat horn.  My middle finger a few times though...  :)

I loaded the flare gun once when I thought an @Afun moment was eminent.  I did it under the dash, but it was ready if he had tried to come aboard.  I had about eight more flares sitting on the floor, too.  Man, that could have had a nasty outcome in many, many ways....

Ever since then I try to remember the 9mm.  Somewhat cleaner and more effective at achieving the desired outcome (which is STOP NOW!).

On my 2010vlx, the horn is located behind the right front air vent. Too much water over the years made it quit working. My car mechanic said it probably had gotten rusty inside and to take it out and connect it straight to my truck battery. This gives it a full 12 volt punch. It now works like new.
