Drifted into a rock. Do I need to fix? Pics included

Thank you in advance for reading this.

I was airing up the inner tube and didn’t realize we were drifting so close to some rocks. When one of the girls pointed at the rocks I turned the boat on and gently nudged right to avoid them but there was a rock underneath the water that got me. Do you think I need to get this fixed? How much do you think it would cost? Thanks

I would get it fixed. The fibres will act like a sponge and soak up water. Doesn’t look terrible. I think it would be 2-4hrs of labour for a glass guy.

At least it will be below the water line.

I already reached my deductible with my insurance from an incident earlier in the year. Should I have my insurance pay for this if it’s covered?

Get a repair quote and then decide.  I do not have pics, but my buddy's MC was chipped and scratch in about a half dozen places as the neighbour's pontoon boat banged into it while incorrectly moored.  Some of the gouges were down to the glass.  Red metal flack and black. The pontoon owner eventually paid for the repairs, and honestly - I can't tell where the damages were - the glass guys were that good.  Cost about 400 USD IIRC.

Once you know the repair cost you can decide if a claim is necessary.  Frankly, the fewer the claims the better; paid out claims will follow you around the the albatross in "Rime of the Ancient Mariner".

I was going to say prolly 400-500 bucks. I had a ding on an IO, chipped a chunk of gell out down to fiberglass. 350. Cant tell where it was.

Property insurance doesn’t work like health insurance. There isn’t an annual deductible with everything covered once you have paid that amount - it is a deductible per claim.  If you file a claim for this, you will pay another deductible and have another incident on your claims history - I’m guessing it will make more sense to just pay for the fix out of pocket.
