Need some help Engine over heat

Recommended Posts

We were out surfing today and my 2020 MXZ 23 flashed high engine coolant.  Boat has the Raptor 450 in it 36 hours.  Check sea strainer and didn’t find anything.  Hose from impeller is cool.  I did turn the heat on to see if that did anything and it was blowing cold air.  All at idle it will climb to 200 under way runs from 175 to 185.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  We are at the start of our vacation and the kids are in their way up with plans of surfing all weekend.

Double check what motor you have... a 2020 should be a PCM or a Malibu M5/M6.

It’s a Raptor 6.2 450 was an early build 2020.

ah. crazy, I thought they went back to the PCM motors during the strike, not the Raptor, guess I was wrong.  Close cooled, right?  Sounds like your raw water system is working but the closed coolant side might not be.  Stuck thermostat?  Maybe low on coolant (not uncommon from the factory) and the water pump isn't priming?

Yes closed loop with heat exchanger.  I can check the thermostat that might also explain the heater not working.  The coolant level looks good.  I hope it’s not the water pump that would kill the week.

Yep.. your heater being cold is a good clue that the coolant isn't circulating. Might just be an air bubble in the system.
