99 Sportster fuel filter location

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have searched through many existing topics, but still cannot find the answer to some questions about my '99 Sportster:

1. Is there an inline fuel filter - if so, WHERE?  It isn't in the clam shell or in the rear compartment below the seat... does it exist?

2. When replacing the spin-on filter / separator (starboard side of engine), does the fuel system have to be depressurized first?  If so, is there a valve (didn't see one anywhere)?

Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

Assuming you have the carb engine, you only have the spin on filter.  There should be a valve on top of the fuel tank where the fuel line goes in to shut off fuel supply.
