Loss of power

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a 2012 wakesetter 247lsv from an individual. It came with a clear inspection report preformed by a reputable dealer less than a few months ago. Ive had the boat on the water a handful of times and it has ran fine, but I have noticed that my fuel gauge isnt reading accurately. I was on the water this past weekend and the boat ran fine all day( 3-4 hours) until we filled all of the ballasts to surf. When we went to take off the boat wouldn't get over 6mph. We emptied all the tanks still couldn't get over 5-9 mph. Any ideas on what the issue might be?

Additional info: we had just filled up the fuel tank the previous day and used the boat a few hours that day. It took 55 gallons to fill. Maybe I got some bad gas? I am pulling a sample this evening to see if it has any water in it.

What's the condition of the batteries after all that pumping?  I've seen a stumble condition and failure to plane when the battery was run down and idle RPM wasn't sufficient to provide enough charge to run a bunch of accessories that were in use.  Killing accessories and revving slightly for a minute gave me enough charge to get on plane and I never saw the issue again.

It's a pain, but certainly could be bad fuel.  I struggled last season where things seemed normal on my 02 VLX when idling, but under power it seemed to bog down, with occasional misfires.  All symptoms indicated fuel delivery or fuel, so I changed the fuel filter, checked the usual stuff, and all seemed ok.  Ultimately, drained the tank and gave it fresh gas, and it was fine.

Update: I found about a half inch slash in the top of one of the rear fat saks. I am assuming that the belt threw water up, from the back/bottom of the boat, on top of some of the sensors and the air filter and threw me into a limp mode. I patched the bag and took to a mechanic to clear the code. Boat ran great this weekend!
