Engine verification?

Recommended Posts

I wanted to verify what exact engine I have for certain.  What is the easiest way to do this?  Does anyone have access to an Indmar serial number list perhaps?
I have a 2013, 23 foot LSV and just wanted to make sure, for certain, which engine oil, filter, etc. to use for my 50 hour service.

from the manual:

“Lubricant – Indmar uses and recommends Pennzoil 15W40 Marine Oil for use in all of its engines.

except for the 8.1 liter models which use Pennzoil 40W oil

and the LS series engines which use Mobil 1 5W30 oil. “

”Indmar uses and recommends Pennzoil Marine 15W40 in all 5.7L and 6.0L engines and Mobil 1 5W30 in all 6.2L engines.”

I’m betting I have the 5.7L, but not 100% certain.  looking to determine, without a doubt, which one I bought used.  thoughts on best practices?

feeling foolish,

thank you for the insights,

Whitecap

Indmar probably has access to their serial number lists.  BTW, my 1999 engine has a serial number sticker on the oil pan that also says what model it is.

You could just post a few photos here.

If it has a distributor cap, it is the old 350 Monsoon.  Otherwise, it is LS based.  No big block in 2013.  Two 6.2L options (LS3 and supercharged LSA).

@Nitrousbird

not terribly handy, but I’m not seeing any distributor cap anywhere (like in a car).

So is the monsoon 350 a:

5.7L & 6.0L = 15W40 oil

or a

6.2L = 5W30

“Engine Families 2013::
5.7L Carbureted (International Sales Only) 5.7L Electronic Fuel Injected
6.0L Electronic Fuel Injected – L96
6.2L Electronic Fuel Injected – LS3, LSA”

“Indmar uses and recommends Pennzoil Marine 15W40 in all 5.7L and 6.0L engines and Mobil 1 5W30 in all 6.2L engines.“

“and the LS series engines which use Mobil 1 5W30 oil. “

So, I’m now guessing this is the “LS series engines”?

which oil, gents?

To further confuse you, the 15W40 is about impossible to find in a synthetic, so if you want to run that, you need to run a 10W40.  That is what I run in my LS1, Mobile One 10W40 full synthetic from Walmart for $23 for a 5 quart jug.  At those prices, why run conventional?

I have (I'm sure the post is somewhere) proven that Indmar is also inconsistent in their oil recommendations throughout the years on certain motors as well.
