05 Sunsetter LXI - no guages, no radio - help

Recommended Posts

Good evening,  I just reinstalled my batteries yesterday got everything hooked up to run on a hose for the first flush of the season.  (i know its way late, but i have 5 kids...time is very hard to come by)  I got it all hooked and started the boat to let it idle. As i was looking at the gauges i realized that there is no gauge activity, but the boat is running just fine.  I've already tracked wires like crazy and have learned a bit about the medallion system.  As i was checking through all of the electrical components, I can't seem to find anything that is questionable.  all switches, all lights, horn, blower, bildge, even the gauge lighting is all working.  BUT, i can't get the radio to turn on or the gauges to come to life.  I've checked for rodents, grounds, battery connections, battery switch, battery voltages, checked all push button breakers, engine kill switch verified, connections to the medallion and any other plug i could get my fingers to take apart and put back together pretty much.  Am i missing some other set of fuses somewhere besides the pushbutton breakers?  Everything worked on the last day of the year when i winterized and then needed to get the hours the middle of the winter, so i connected a battery and turned on key to get the data then unhooked everything again.  everything worked at that time too.  But not this time.  Any direction you can point me in would be great!  Thanks!  -Adam

Since all of the gauges are connected to the MMDC via CAN (network) in 2005, if one gauges faulty it is possible that the the other gauges will not work when connected to a gauge with a short.  Try unplugging the harness plug on each gauge to see if the others begin working.  Key off when disconnecting the gauges each time to let the CAN restart.

As far as the stereo is concerned, if it is a sony head unit, check the fuse by the harness going into the stereo, make sure you have power on the yellow memory wire, and see if the ignition switch accessory connector is providing switched power to the red wire at the stereo harness.

Well, still no radio, but I dropped it in the water last night and all the gauges worked except for the depth gauge - read .5 for most of the time and then 317 while I was putting it back on the trialer.   I can’t explain why the gauges came back to life though...maybe I hit a big bump on the way to the lake??

Either you have a loose wire or your MMDC is going out.
