12 or 14' dock whips for 2001 malibu sunsetter vlx for high winds?

Hi,

Our lake can get quite rough during the evenings and we just got a 2001 malibu vlx sunsetter.  I want to setup a whip system and have been trying to figure out if I should go with dock edge premium 12 (5000lbs) or 14'(10000lbs).  We are not always around and I really want to make sure the boat is safe.

My tenancy is to go larger as hopefully that would do better for the wind but I just wanted to check.

Is there any thing else I should consider when setting this up?  It looks like a spring line should be in place to prevent the boat from moving side to side.

Thank you

For your boat I would go with the 14 footers.  I have the 12' and they are fine.  Note that the tension  on all the ropes is critical; the neighbour actually had his snap (18 foot Bayliner boat).  Also,  I'd run extra docking lines and extra large bumpers if you are leaving it.
