2000 Response filling with water with Wedge down!

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 Response, and kids enjoy to wake surf.  Boat runs great other than when I put the wedge down and wake surf.  It immediately fills with water FAST!  Constantly running the bilge pump and also affects the engine performance.  It is coming in from under the boat somewhere.  100% not overtop.  I have heard rumours this is a known issue.  Anyone have same problem or know how to fix?

Thanks!

David

Hi David

welcome to the ‘crew!

it is implied, but does the water only come in when wedge down and only when under power?

When we surf our 99 RLX, the rubrail is definitely under water when the boat is listed.  Maybe you have a void where the top deck and hull meet?  Or if this is regular event without the Wedge, then you could have a leaking HDS - Hydrophonic Dampening System.  If you are a first owner both would be covered under the mfg. warranty.

A couple of ideas:, spray water from a hose along the outside of the rubrail while the boat is on the trailer.  Move the rig into a dark area and shine a flashlight from inside. under the gunwales and see if light escapes.  But it if it is happeneing all the time, Wedge ir not, I'd start by testing the HDS system.

I have a 1999 Response LX  that used to fill with water too.  Source was the seam at joint of top deck and hull.  Gained access from inside by removing rear panel in trunk and went up as far as I could from inside with silicone.  Also removed the rub rail from joint at back of boat and sealed from outside too.  I am actually in the process of going further forward on my boat right  now.  Last week with heavy load in boat and to drivers side was still getting water in the boat. Not nearly as bad but still getting water in.  I just removed fuel tank too in order to service my steering rudder.  Good Luck.  Jay Birdsong
