2002 21’ Wakesetter Monsoon bogs and won't accelerate

I have made several recorded runs with my diacom setup.  I don't know what I am looking for.  I don't have no codes and I don't know what normal should be.

Anyone out there that can help me out that use Diacom?

Lots of information here don't know where to start.

Did your issues/symptoms occur while you were recording the data?  If so, post up some pictures of the charts and data logged and that should be a great starting point.

OK, so you have data.  The basic idea is to compare your data to what is considered normal for the conditions the engine is running in.  It's OK if you don't know what normal is, but the MEFI manual you have has all of that and more.  It would be a pain to go through every test they have, so if you can post screen shots of your data, maybe someone here will pick up on something quickly.

Reading back through the thread, last week you were interested in coolant temperature.  What does Diacom say about it as the engine warms up?

In what part of the country do you live?

Yes the boat did act up.

It never would get over 3500 RPM while in gear

Tennessee

Temp is ok

I will try to post the data

When you let it idle, is it at 950 rpm, or something else?  Idle data would be good also.

It looks like it is in service mode, perhaps?  It seems like spark advance should be higher than 10.7 degrees at that rpm.  Does the mefi data plug have a jumper wire in it?

yes there is a jumper wire on the plug. I just plug up the Diacom after I removed the cap for the port.

I notice when i watched some of the recorded runs spark advance was 10.7 the complete run

here is idle data

That wire is just a ground, mostly to keep the cap from getting lost.  It's normal.

With key on, engine off and your Diacom unit on, slowly move the throttle and make sure that throttle position follows what you are doing at the helm.  I can't tell from what you provided that the engine knows throttle position very well.

MAP sensor looks OK.  Pressure should approach atmospheric (~30 inHg) with key on, engine off, then go very low (around 10 or so) at idle, and ramp back toward atmospheric as throttle opens/RPM increases.

I can't explain why spark advance is stuck at 10.7 for several of your runs.  That would definitely retard the engine.  @csleaver, do you mind taking a peek?  What is "BYPASS SPARK SYSTEM = ON?"

I understand that your photos may not be current, but if you have not cleaned the throttle body with carb spray and changed the spark plug wires yet, do both of those now.

photos when i started i have new plugs, wires, coil, button, cap and yes I cleaned the Throttle body like you suggested.

I don't see anything really strange with the diacom data.  The operational video makes me think there is something not right with the distributer timing, firing order, or an injector not working, assuming the compression test was good.  Each one of those problems usually result in very similar operational issues.

Thanks for looking.

A timing light while it is running would be a great way to check the advance.

How do you find a bad injector?

Remove the injector connectors one by one until you find one that doesn't make the engine change the way it is running.

Ok I have found problem or problems

Injector or injectors

I will update with a detailed post hopefully it will help someone out.  I should have found this in the beginning but I want on the water so bad I didn't take the time to troubleshoot and eliminate one thing at a time.

No I have to figure if injectors can be cleaned or need to be replaced, or it is going bad.

I changed everything and nothing.   I check fuel pump pressure, and new fuel filter (fuel filter was dirty). I ever bought the Rinda Diacom and nothing after throwing parts and listing to everyone.

I went back to the basics.   Compression   Fire  and Gas ( 3 must haves)

I got to thinking when I changed the plugs #5 was Black  (and I should have stopped there and seen what the problem was but o well I didn't done everything else till I thought about it again)

This is what I have done and what worked for me.

I started with narrowing down the problems. (Troubleshooting one thing at a time)

Cylinder #1 pulled plug wire and run boat  (speed and power was worse) 26--29 mph

Cylinder #3 pulled plug wire and run boat  (speed and power was worse) 26-29 mph

Cylinder #5 pulled plug wire and run boat  (speed and power was not worse) 35 mph

Cylinder #7 pulled plug wire and run boat  (speed and power was worse) 26-29 mph

Cylinder #2 pulled plug wire and run boat  (speed and power was worse) 26-29 mph

Cylinder #4 pulled plug wire and run boat  (speed and power was worse) 26-29 mph

Cylinder #6 pulled plug wire and run boat  (speed and power was worse) 26-29 mph

Cylinder #8 pulled plug wire and run boat  (speed and power was worse) 26-29 mph

Cylinder #5 was where my problem appeared to be, so I changed the plug (no help)

I checked Cylinder #5 compression; it was GOOD!!!

Pulled the fuel rail and pulled the injector and it was clogged up with rust/dirt/crap

install it back, and lake tested it, and it runs 4000 RPM no problem (but I know it should run better)

So I pulled all the injectors for cleaning, and all of them had some dirt in them.

Now my 2002 Wakesetter runs like it is supposed to.

If I had not been I such a big hurry I would have not been out so many $$$  and replaced stuff that didn’t need to be replaced.   Cap, Button, Wires, Plugs, Coil, and so on!!

Not to say it didn’t help it. (Boat had been sitting for five years, and they were all original parts).

Just like plug wire, if there is a problem, you can open the hood at night (darkroom) and start the boat, and if the wires are bad most of the time, you can see the arcing.

Most coil problems occur went they get hot. (most of my experiences)

I don't know if this will help anyone, but I hate reading a forum, and when they get the problem solved, they never post the results.

Did you have them sent somewhere to get cleaned or did you just clean them out yourself?  There are specialty shops that will bench test and restore injectors for you.

Cap, Button, Wires, Plugs, Coil,

On this age of boat, this is just standard maintenance. I wouldn't call it not needed.

Glad you figured it out.

These were new injectors didn't have 5 hours on them.   I had a local shop clean them.

Glad you figured it out.

Boat is old and only has 274 hours on it.

I have always been one if it not broke don't fix it.

The wires and stuff didn't hurt.

Thanks

What are you getting for max RPM's now that you cleaned all 8?

4300
