Oil in plenum. Monsoon 340

Recommended Posts

I've noticed some oil smell in the back of the boat.  Runs good, spark plugs good, leak down good.   I noticed oil in side the plenum.  There are two holes in there.  Any idea what that is?  Does oil come out of there?

When I had my plenum off this weekend I noticed some oil in one of the small holes on the port side of the plenum in the aft hole. Could not determine how it got there.

I’ll probably have it off again this weekend and will check it again.

Check your PCV valve and make sure it's not sticking.  You should be able to shake it and hear a rattle.  If not, it is sticking and can cause that.  However, from what I understand, a small amount of residue can be normal in the plenum.  I removed my intake plenum over the winter and powder coated it like you did yours and had a decent amount of oily residue I cleaned up before powder coating.

edit:  if it doesn't rattle when you shake it, soak the valve in gas overnight.

The pcv is not really a valve but rather just a fitting and hose that connects to the air filter.  I have oil under my plenum everytime too, I think it's somewhat normal.

There is a PCV valve on the other side opposite the dummy valve/hose setup.
