2000 VLX speedometer stuck

Recommended Posts

Hey gang,

I’ve looked through the other threads and seen some good things to start with but wanted to ask about mine specifically. My speedometer on my 2000 Sunsetter VLX is stuck all the way over at full speed. Never moves or twitches or anything. My boat came with a perfect pass that does not work either and I’m fairly certain I’ve bypassed it out of the system but any thoughts on fixing the speedo?

Could be a clogged pitot tube, bad gauge or bad MDC. Check the rear pitots and make sure they a free of debris.  Do your other gauges work?

My guess is a dead gauge.  The stepper motors in them go bad.  They can be replaced with a bunch of work, or a new one for a few hundred.  Or repace with a GPS based speedo.

The tachometer is also dead.
