Engine oil 350 monsoon

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have a new to me 2010 VLX with the 5.7 350 monsoon engine. Boat came with all the service records from the previous owner where he had his oil changed at skiers marine with onlu 85hrs on it. I have put 25hrs on it myself and would like to go ahead and service it. On the records, it just says 20w50 oil change and what they charged to do it. I plan on doing most of the maintenance stuff myself so I am wondering what brand and viscosity oil everyone is using on these engines as well as oil filters and impellers.

appreciate the help!

Indmar states in both their 2009, and 2011 (bakes does not list 2010 specifically) "Operator's Manual," page 6-5:  "Indmar uses and recommends Pennzoil Marine 15W40 in all 5.7L, 6.0L, and 6.2L (383) engines . . . ."  I used to use Pennzoil Marine, but have had difficulty finding it.  The past several years, I've been using Shell Rotella T4 15W40.

FWIW, the Pennzoil PZ3 oil filter doesn't get a lot of love around here.  I prefer Mobil M1-111 or STP S8873.  After a fresh oil change, you should be good for another 50 hours, though, to be perfectly honest, I do it at the end of every season, while I'm winterizing, whether I've gotten anywhere near 50 hours or not.

Here is another useful reference from Bake's Resource Library:  https://cdn.bakesonline.com/media/resourcelibrary/IndmarOilRec.pdf

Impeller should be a Johnson 09-812B-1:  https://www.bakesonline.com/johnson-09-812b-1-impeller-service-kit.html

With a v-drive, you might want to do yourself a favor and get one of these as well:  https://www.bakesonline.com/impeller-puller-stainless-steel.html
