Replacing Fuel Sending Unit

Recommended Posts

I am looking to replace the fuel sending unit on a 2000 Malibu Response. The gas tank sits under the ski locker at the back of the boat.  Water from folks getting out of the boat can get to the tank. All the sending units I am seeing online are "open" on the top...meaning the wires are connected to posts and are exposed. Is this type of sending unit ok to use in my application? If water gets on it, will it short or worse?

most sending units have the electrical connections exposed.  water may impact the connection over time but I think if you get it dry as part of your winterization process you will be fine.  it is likely that the unit you are replacing is original and it lasted for 20 years.

Paint the connections with 3M scotchkote once it's installed.

I use it on any exposed connections (buss bars, engine block grounds, etc.)

Thanks! Did you just add it directly to the connections?
