Engine dies for brief moment, then fine - 2009 VLX

Recommended Posts

The last two times I took my boat out, the engine completely died about 15 minutes into the day for a quick moment. Both time it was in the EXACT same area where we ride (pretty sure that's just a coincident, but strange). Both times I was accelerating and got up to close to max speed on a straight away around 40mph (1st time up to that speed each day). Both time, the engine just died and I got a warning message on the display screen and an alarm beeping. Each time, The boat just quickly slowed down and was just floating until I took the key out, put it back it and started it right back up again. The rest of the day both times, the boat rode without any further issues. The first time this happened, I was out for hours after the incident without and other issues the rest of the day, the second time it happened, I just went back home after.

It's a 2009 VLX with just under 750 hours.

Any idea what this could be? I'd hate to have this happen next time out causing further issues, or not starting back up and leaving me stranded.

Thanks!

I agree with Steve could be several things. I’d start with a basic tune up, plugs, wires, filters then see if it persists.

what code is it throwing?

I was having similar issues and turns out there was a Indmar service bulletin. On back of engine next to ECM is a fuse box. In there is a 40 amp circuit breaker remove that and replace it with 40 amp maxi fuse. Cured all  my problems for $5 part
