silicon vs 5200

Quick question... I have always heard "silicon above the waterline and 5200 below" for sealing up thru hulls... but I noticed on my 2019 all thru hulls use silicon, even on the bottom of the hull.  Anyone know why Malibu does it this way? Is silicon just easier to work with in the factory?

If they used 5200 for thru hulls below waterline, you would never, ever, ever be able to replace those thru hull fittings if it ever became required without extensive fiberglass work.  That 5200 is some tough stuff.

I prefer 4200. Drys faster and isn’t as permanent.
