Metal Flake / Maintenance / Buffing / Repair

Recommended Posts

I am considering getting a boat with metal flake.  I understand if you need to patch it it is a much bigger deal than regular solid color gelcoat.  That said, will scratches and scuffs buff out or wet sand out like regular gel?  I am willing to take my chances on no major gouges, but I want to be able to buff out normal scuffs and scratches.  Thanks in advance for any metal flake owners and their experience.

The metal flake is sprayed on after a relatively thick coat of clear goes in the mold, so yes, normal scuffs and scratches should have plenty of clear for you to sand and buff before you ever get down to any flake.

What color(s) are you thinking about?

Small scratches and scuffs tend to hide in metal flake but the deeper ones are a bit harder to polish out. That’s at least what I’ve found over the years.
