Help Spend my Buddy’s Money! Boat Purchase

Recommended Posts

My friend had a mastercraft as a kid and loves my malibu 25 LSV but wants to get his own boat. He’s looking at a slalom style ski boat with some retro colors in decent shape. His budget is $10,000. Any ideas? Open to all brands.

Any particular models he should seek or avoid?

In that budget range, I'd be looking for a 94ish MC PS190.  If he's willing to bump that by 5 grand or so, could maybe start to get into Diamond Hulled Response territory.

You should be able to find a 1990 - 1996 Ski Nautique with the no wake zone hull in your buddy's budget. These went through a minor redesign for the 1994-1996 model years, though I don't believe the hull changed at all. I skied behind a '96 for almost 20 years before moving up to a Ski Nautique 200 and then finally my current VTX. The no wake zone hull puts out a great ski wake, but if your friend can swing the extra cash to move up to a 1997 - 2001 Ski Nautique with the TSC1 hull, he could enjoy one of the best ski wakes ever produced.

A 1991 - 1994 MC ProStar 190 as mentioned above is another great suggestion and many swear by the quality of the ski wake behind those boats. Though, I have heard the spray can be a bit of a nuisance. If I were shopping for a slalom tug with your friend's budget I would personally be looking for either a Nautique or MC and working hard to get into a TSC1 Nautique.
