Fuel use while in idle forward

Recommended Posts

I’m still figuring out things with my new to me 2009 23 lsv. I have yet to do any towing or surfing with it, I’ve put about 7 hours on it, with about 6 hours and 45 minutes at idle forward just cocktail cruising. The rest has been a few minutes at full throttle or at 9mph or so.

question is, on the mailiview screen the gas gauge still shows completely full. Should I have seen it move at all by now?  I’ve just heard how these are gas hogs and I thought it might have creeped off of full. Not sure if this is normal fuel consumption or if the sender could be bad.

thanks!

At idle moving forward your burning about 1gph. Probably less.  The gas gauges aren’t very accurate at all. Imagine the float sensor being at the top rear of the rectangle. And that rectangle is tilted. Basically don’t worry about your fuel level till you actually see it move. Then maybe your at 50-60% for real.

if you want always accurate, then you could do this project. I think an ‘09 should have an ODBII port. Yes?

Thanks. Seems like I’ve used 5-7 gallons or so. I’ll give it more time to see if the gauge moves!

Well I was quick to ask. Went out this afternoon and it went down an 1/8th of a tank. So it’s all working!

now to figure out my stuck mux button issue...
