Trailer bearing, castle nut, etc.

Recommended Posts

Thanks in advance for some help. '02 trailer. It say's Malibu on it, but the tag say's something "Tex" on it. Anyway, taking off the bearing cap exposes the zirk fitting and castle nut. But, instead of having a typical cotter pin all the way thru, there is a thin tab holding the nut. Do I just bend it to the inside to allow the castle nut to turn around it?

I tried pulling it but doesn't seem like it will come out. Also, the spindle itself doesn't look like the hole thru it doesn't go all the way thru. So, it looks like it is designed this way. I just want to replace the bearings as semi annual maintenance.

Thanks !

Steve B.
