Tower speaker recommendations

I've been trying to research and have heard from a couple buddies who say Rev10's are the way to go. Are there any other good brands out there what will be loud enough to hear out behind the boat? Perhaps some middle of the road price range?

80ft range or surfing/party cove behind the boat? Most any HLCD with ample power will do both. A pair of 8" coaxial with solid power will give you a great surf/party cove setup. The trade-offs are, smaller HLCDs do not sound as warm close in behind the boat and  coaxial are not the most ideal for wake range projection. For the best of both, a pair of larger HLCD, like in the 10" or 11" range, will give you the wake range projection and better sound quality near field.

So when bumping up against a budget, it can come down to which area I want to compromise.

For every doubling of distance, the sound level looses 6 dB, and you could equate that to say 1/4th amplifier power. From 10 feet away the sound level is blistering, but at 80 feet away you lose a whopping 18 dB of sound level, plus you have motion and considerable noise to compete with. That's a lot to overcome. Surface area and displacement rule. And the Wetsounds Rev10 has plenty of both. So if you want to project, a large tower speaker like the Rev10 + a ton of amplifier power is essential. Smaller and lower cost will be a compromise. Nothing wrong with a budget and making a concession as long as you know the difference upfront.
