Need New Motor For 1998 Malibu Response LX

Recommended Posts

We had our engine block crack this winter from a bad winterize job.  Needing to know what motor to replace it with.  It’s a 1998 response lx. 320 monsoon.  Having a friend do it but need to figure out what specific motor it is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you have a place to do the work, swapping over existing parts to a new long block isn't a huge undertaking.  Biggest pain is getting the old one apart and cleaning off old gaskets, mating surfaces, etc.

Think it needs one? We pulled our annual Barefoot figure eight tourney every spring up at UW-Stout with our team boats in 02-04, which all had Monsoons. Even the bigger guys had no issue with the speed it could make with two full grown men behind it.

Needs it? No. But more speed/power is nicer. Figure 8 usually only goes 41-43. But at least the response can hold that speed on corners. Unlike Mastercrafts of that era.
