Thoughts on 1996 Malibu Echelon lx?

Have some friends that are looking to get a 96 Echelon lx. Does anyone have any experience/feelings about these? Has the 350 Chevy in it

I love mine.  How do they expect to use it?  Slalom skiing and footing is what it's best at.  It's a very good wakeboarding boat with a tower and a wedge.  Not very good for surfing, it's doable, but it does not do it well.

Mostly wakeboarding with an extended pylon and tubing. Probably will never surf with it.

It's a perfect boat for that, he will be happy with it.

If it has the Computron computer and is finicky or functioning at all, tell him to forget about it.  They all fail.  Pay attention to the guages, speedo and tach and forget the Computron is there (or unplug it).  Add an hour meter.

That's pretty much the only weird thing about them, the rest is simple and typical boat stuff.

A great boat, particularly for its design intent - slalom, 3 event and barefooting.  It probably is not the ideal choice for wakeboarding as the hull is designed to throw a flat wake.  As noted above, boarders have been successful although if you are not going to focus on slalom and footing there are probably better options for wake sports.  Just for reference, my focus is slalom and footing and do very little wakeboarding so not an expert on how to set one up for it.  The Echelon is an outstanding boat and it was boat of the year a few times back in its heyday.
