Walters V-Drive oil for RV-26 D

Recommended Posts

I want to change the V-drive fluid, and the manual specifies SAE 30 oil, 1 quart.  I have heard that I am supposed to use Non-detergent oil.  Is there any truth to that?

Of the Walters VD's that I have owned the OM has always stated to use Non Detergent, straight SAE 30. One of those Walters was in 2006 Moomba OBV.

Thanks!  I'll buy the non-detergent.

The sump pick up line is probably the easiest way to go to drain and fill the VD with a vacuum pump IME.Walter.thumb.jpg.8ad4e0de9330227db842a5473e0300b2.jpg

Is there any issue with using the dipstick hole?  I'd rather not disturb any connections if I don't have to.

LOL.... That dip stick hole is about 1/2 the size of a No.2 pencil, but it would work if you are motivated. You can also unscrew the vent cap and fill from there, that hole is slightly larger. Just make sure you pull the dip stick to vent the air if you go that route.

Okay, job complete.  But I was only able to get about 1.5 qts out of the transmission, and 0.75 qts out of the V-drive.  The manual states capacities are 2 qts and 1 qt respectively.  Does that sound about right, considering leftover fluid in the lines, etc?  I added the same amount back as I pumped out, and levels appear okay on the dipsticks.

Shouldn't be a problem. You may have been a little low. If not the old oil won't hurt being mixed in unless the oil was a little milky. For the Walter the dip stick as to be fully seated to properly check the fluid level.
