Cold start procedure 85 skier

With these older boats is there any special procedures I should do when cold starting? Pump throttle a few times then crank? Starter fluid?  Thanks

@916Skier - Yes to throttle pump, no to starter fluid.  If it takes starter fluid (which is very corrosive to combustion chamber) adjust or rebuild the carburetor to restore an easy start scenario.  If you are having trouble, look at choke setting and accel pump operation.  A good investment would be a carb book as a good reference item.

Thanks for the info. I’ll find out more today when I put it down n the water. I started yesterday with “fake a lake” without pruning or pumping and it took a few 3-5 cranks to fire up. I’ll do this procedure today and see how it works

You’ll get to know your boat. The last carb’d one I owned, I would put throttle all the way down to set choke, then it would almost always start right away. If that didn’t work then a bit of jiggle while cranking did the trick.

Commonly it would initially fire but die immediately. Then I’d have to start with the neutral switch on and jiggle until I found the “happy spot” where she’s keep running.

it sounds more complicated than it was. My point is that after a few starts you’ll figure it out.
