Medallion Touchscreen Delaminating

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a 2011 Wakesetter VLX. When I first got the boat the touchscreen was absolutely horrendous. After a lot of back and forth with Malibu - they sent me a new screen, problem solved.

A couple years ago I noticed something odd with the screen itself, it was as if the touchscreen itself was delaminating from the glass. Has anyone ever seen this on theirs?  It almost looks like air behind the edges of the glass...

To complicate things even more, Malibu is out of them, and Medallion is shut down due to covid. I have 5 people waiting on screens and they wont give an eta.

Thanks for the info; I reached out to Medallion and got an auto-reply that their email address no longer worked. I was half-wondering if they shut down entirely. I also see that they make screens for other industries - including aviation.  As an airline pilot for the past 20+ years I can tell you I would NEVER trust a product such as theirs in any aircraft I flew. God, imagine !

There stuff seems hit or miss.  My black box lasted 20 years before it died.  I guess that’s pretty good. Problem is they are so expensive to replace and like others have stated they are only going to get harder to come by and more costly.  @Eagleboy99 is onto something...

Old man here, screens have to go. I’ll never upgrade until they are replaced with another type of interface (Bluetooth to Android, iOS, etc). Even the Medallion Viper box in my vRide is $700, and it has an LCD screen the likes of a Pac-Man watch from 1980.

i spend enough time looking at Excel and computers during the week. Don’t want to worry about them in the water.

The RV industry was the next victim of the integrated control module wave. Engineers will argue this all day long..that fewer parts and interfaces will pay dividends of reliability and performance/experience. Write me a ten year warranty for your systems and I’ll upgrade.

Some bright mind needs to build an interface to an iPad or other tablet.  These screen issues are onlly going to get worse as time goes by.

 Not Apple please!

Man that’s a tough pill to swallow if I owned a boat that needed one.

I just started my own post on the same topic, please check that one too.  Looking for some other's experience prior to mine.  I can say that Medallion is shipping units again, as my local dealer says they just sold a stock part, and ordered its replacement that is due in next week.  Bakes said they were promised delivery of newly manufactured inventory on 5/25 (not updated yet), but the order page no longer says "out of stock".

Two things -

1) The price tag on these screens is INSANE. They’re garbage to begin with and nowhere near the fidelity of some other touchscreen’s. How is that price tag justified

2) They should last longer than they do. Like I said earlier: If enough people are intersted we should get a class action suit again them going. The boat is USELESS without this garbage screen. It’s essentially a $3000+ tax
