Looking at purchasing a 1988 Malibu original wakesetter but have one question I can’t seem to answer. 

How many people is the boat rated for ?

Wow thanks so much guys. Probably why I couldn’t find much information on the boat.. because it doesn’t exist. Yes that is the kijiji ad of the boat I’m looking at. Looks like it is rated for 8 people !

Is that too expensive? Seems like an alright deal to me. Anything I should know about the boat prior to purchase

The price is fine for Western Canada although for a few thousand more you can move into the mid-90's.  It is only money.  Do the usual, but check for stringer rot and motor compression.

Kinda what I was getting at.. it's a 1988.  Move into a 90's boat and you won't have any stringer rot etc. to worry about.  Better piece of mind IMO.  But if the boat is in tip top shape go for it, just realize the issues that could be there.
