2006 Malibu 23LSV steering cable

Recommended Posts

I just bought my first Malibu and have a couple areas I think need attention. I feel like I have a ton of free play in the steering on my 06 23LSV. How hard is it to change/adjust  the steering cable? Much appreciated!!

@Ben18, it's not hard.  With a little guidance and the right tools you can do it fairly quickly, especially with an extra pair of hands.  Check your PMs regarding that...but if you have a lot of free play you'll want to make sure the cable sleeve isn't moving where it terminates with the large aluminum cap just prior to the rudder tiller.  Not sure what the technical term is for this assembly is (similar to the "cable clamp assembly" in the video below), but it holds the sleeve securely in place while the inner cable moves through it to move the tiller arm.  Someone here recently had a problem with that exact problem, so that might save you a cable swap if that's the issue.
