Renting a tow vehicle

As far as what to do with the boat outside of Powell?? Tow it everywhere..... All the parks are set up for RV size vehicles and I'm accustomed to towing trailers.

I've traveled through the National Parks in the West.  I wouldn't want to tow a boat through them.  Sure, they are set up for RVs.  At least the campgrounds are.  The parking areas where you stop to site see are very crowded, with limiting parking.  Last time I went through some of the parks in the West I had trouble finding a spot to park my DRW truck.......

Yikes!  in the skiing world we call this "low probablity, high consequence terrain".

Oh, I agree. I never said I’d do it, just saying that might be the only option if he doesn’t want to take two cars.

Uhaul box truck with couches in back:

That's like the official low budget burning man setup.  See it frequently around these parts mid to late august, and then DIRTY first week of September.

Not quite on topic. I have used U-haul and Enterprise for the last 4 years exclusively. Got an eco vehicle for daily driving, rent pick-up for boat tow. I only go 7 miles each way. Both offer roadside assistance no matter the issue. I love renting for towing, but my use doesnt really relate to your passenger issue.

Just an update on the situation - after looking into Turo and other options, we've decided to take 2 vehicles. I'll tow with a crew cab truck and more passengers will follow in a car or Jeep Grand Cherokee. Probably could have worked out a deal on a Suburban through Turo, but it would have been expensive - around $2k for the miles we'll be driving.

If you need an excavator for a short time, it makes sense to rent it. But if you need it for an extended period, I recommend that you think about buying your own excavator. A long lease may cost more in total than the purchase. I often rent cars when I travel, and for a good reason. A personal car helps save a lot of time. Traveling by public transportation does not give you time to see all the sights in the country. The last time I rented a car was when I traveled to Europe. I decided to treat myself and rented a luxury car.
