Fender bunks rotting

Recommended Posts

AJwakedevil

When backing the trailer in this weekend to put the 'bu on the fender  bunk went floating away. Inspecting it, the wood just rotted all the way through. Any help on replacing them?

Are there any premade wood bunks?

Best way to secure these?

I have wood ones covered by carpet and they tend to grow moss.  I suspect they will fall off one day, too.  I'd carpet some Starboard next time.

Boatmate sells premade units made of HDPE and carpeted.  Will never rot again, that's for sure.  ~$40 each if memory serves; if you price out HDPE, it's not a bad price.

...or pressure treated 2x6 and/or 2x4s depending on the trailer. Use galvanized lag bolts/washers from underneath. I have done this to 3 trailers, and even reused the carpet.

We are talking about the side bunks, not the 2x6 main bucks AFAIK
