Another surf vs skim question…

I have been riding my neighbors P5 Hammerhead for the past two years and love the board (fast, light, agile).  While I can easily get the board around, 360s and even 720s I have yet to be able to stick the landing and stay in the wave.  I find myself having a lot more fun dropping way back in the wave and charging up, slashing (attempting to get air), etc.  When I am not riding his board I am riding my Liquidforce Doum which I like as well.

I’m not sure if I will ever really be talented at skim style tricks and since I enjoy riding it more like a surf style board I recently thought should I get a high end surf board instead?  I was set on getting a Hammerhead of my own but now I am wondering if maybe I should get a Soulcraft, Doumswell, or P5 Ahi type board instead?  I have never ridden a good surf style board (only a Hyperlite Broadcast a couple of times) before and it’s a lot of money to spend so I don’t want to regret going that direction.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hyperlite Broadcast is a skim board...

The DoomsWell Nubstep is hybrid (surf/skim) and is my favorite board from them.

Also look at Tuk Tuk for a true surf style board... They are all custom made to order and I love mine!

Where are you located, any way to demo boards there? Everybody likes something different about their boards and I highly suggest demoing if you can.

Lol, thanks for the education on the Broadcast

I am in Wisconsin, I contacted a few dealers a couple of years ago about demoing some boards but they weren't interested.

Thanks for information on the Nubstep, I'll take a look at that one as well.

Let me talk to Brock at DoomsWell to see if he has any dealer support there...

I promise I won't stalk you if you provide me with better location here, or PM ;)

Ha, no worries.  Thanks for offering to help I appreciate it.  I am about 1hr north of Milwaukee.  I coincidentally emailed Brock at DoomsWell earlier today to get his opinion on what board I should get.

I have really liked the Doomswell Neo and the Phase 5 Swell.

Older post....but can you compare the 2 and which sizes?

I have the 54" neo and the 53" swell.  Both boards are really similar.  Both fast and carve aggressively.  I am 185lbs and wish the 55" swell was out but the 53" is plenty adequate.  I bought the phase 5 because I had cracked the nose of the doomswell and it was starting to come apart.  The phase 5 boards are definitely more durable and I would say that is the biggest difference between the two boards in my opinion.  I don't think you would be disappointed with either board no matter your skill level.  The phase 5 board may be slighty faster but the difference is negligible.

I went riding with this guy last Friday evening:

He did every trick on those videos and then some that evening.  He is the one that convinced me to get a Soulcraft board a couple years ago - zero regrets.  To the point I bought a 2nd board...

I'm 6'3", 210lbs (ugh) and ride a 4'8" Emily.
